Tyrosol: a natural antioxidant from olive oil

Tyrosol is a phenolic compound found in two key staples of the Mediterranean diet: wine and extra virgin olive oil. Although less well-known than hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol plays a significant role in the health benefits attributed to olive oil.

It is a natural substance with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cell-protective properties, which can help protect the body against chronic diseases.

What does tyrosol do in your body?

Scientific research shows that tyrosol is able to:

> To reduce oxidative stress

> To slow down inflammatory processes

> Prevent cell damage (anti-apoptotic effect)

> To support new blood vessel formation (pro-angiogenic)

In addition, it has been shown that tyrosol is easily absorbed from extra virgin olive oil, even in small amounts. When consumed regularly through diet, it is absorbed into the bloodstream and actively utilized by the body.

Tyrosol and health

Several studies point to the protective effects of tyrosol in conditions such as:

> High blood pressure (hypertension)

> Arteriosclerosis

> Coronary heart disease (narrowing of the coronary arteries around the heart)

> Chronic heart failure

> Insulin resistance

> Overweight and obesity

Although more research is needed to understand the precise mechanisms of action, the current findings indicate that tyrosol is a valuable bioactive compound in the context of cardiovascular health and metabolic balance.
